Academics
Will Catalyx still teach traditional academics?
Yes. Reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies remain the foundation of the Catalyx school day. The Five Pillars are designed to strengthen those fundamentals by giving students additional ways to use what they learn.
What is the academic priority in Kindergarten through Grade 2?
The early grades focus heavily on building strong readers, writers, mathematicians, communicators and learners. The Five Pillars are introduced gradually and in age-appropriate ways, but they do not replace the core academic foundation.
How will Catalyx prepare students for middle school?
The goal is for students to leave fifth grade academically prepared, confident, independent and ready for the demands of middle school. Strong reading, writing, mathematics, study habits, communication and problem-solving are all part of that preparation.
How will parents know whether their child is progressing academically?
Catalyx plans to use regular assessment, classroom performance, teacher observation and student work to monitor academic progress. Parents should receive clear information about their child's strengths, growth and areas that may need additional attention.
How large will Catalyx classes be?
Deliberately small. Exact class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios will be confirmed as staffing and facility plans are finalized, but small classes are a founding commitment rather than a detail to be decided later.
Five Pillars
Are the Five Pillars too advanced for elementary students?
No. The Five Pillars are introduced in simple, age-appropriate ways. A seven-year-old might learn the difference between saving and spending, explain an idea to classmates, help lead a group, create a simple product, or learn how to ask technology a good question and check the answer.
Are the Five Pillars separate advanced classes?
Not necessarily. Many of the Pillars will be woven into normal academic learning through stories, projects, classroom activities, teamwork and presentations. The goal is to gradually build useful skills without taking attention away from core academics.
Why teach entrepreneurship and financial literacy so young?
Children already make choices, solve problems, create ideas and begin forming habits around money. Catalyx introduces those ideas at an age-appropriate level so students can build confidence and good judgment gradually over time.
What does AI & Innovation mean for young children?
It does not mean advanced programming or spending the day using AI. Younger students may learn how to ask clear questions, recognize that technology can be wrong, compare information, and use simple tools responsibly to create or solve problems.
Is Catalyx Academy an AI school?
No. AI and innovation is one of five pillars, not the identity of the school. Catalyx is a private elementary school built on traditional academics. Students learn to use technology thoughtfully and responsibly, and technology never replaces teachers, books, handwriting, discussion or collaboration.
How Catalyx Works
What is the Catalyx Learning Model™?
The Catalyx Learning Model™ is Learn → Apply → Build → Present. Students first learn the academic concept, then use it, create or solve something with it, and explain what they have learned.
Is Catalyx a project-based school?
Projects are an important part of the model, but they do not replace direct instruction. Teachers still teach, students still read, write, practice and build academic mastery. Projects are used when they help deepen understanding or give students meaningful ways to apply what they know.
Will students use technology all day?
No. Technology is one tool among many. Books, handwriting, discussion, teacher instruction, physical materials, collaboration, creativity and hands-on work remain important parts of the Catalyx experience.
Why are small classes important?
Small classes allow teachers to know students more closely, provide more feedback, encourage greater participation, and identify when a child needs more explanation or additional challenge.
What makes Catalyx Academy different from other private elementary schools in Broward County?
Catalyx combines a traditional academic core with small classes and five practical skill areas introduced in age-appropriate ways: AI and innovation, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, leadership, and communication and public speaking. Reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies remain the foundation of every school day, and the five pillars give students more ways to use what they learn.
Is Catalyx a traditional private school or an alternative school?
Catalyx is a traditional private elementary school in its academic foundation, with an added emphasis on applying what students learn. Direct instruction, practice, rigor and grade-level mastery all remain central. It is not an unstructured or alternative-education model.
Admissions
What type of student is Catalyx designed for?
Catalyx is being designed for students who are academically and developmentally ready to participate successfully in a strong grade-level elementary program with the normal support available in a small classroom.
Will there be an entrance exam?
Final admissions procedures are still being developed. For younger students the process may include parent conversations, school or preschool information, age-appropriate readiness activities and teacher observation rather than a traditional high-pressure entrance exam.
Is Catalyx designed specifically for gifted students or students who need remediation?
Catalyx is not being designed initially as a specialized gifted or remedial school. The focus is on a strong core academic program for students who are a good fit for the general Catalyx learning environment.
Will Catalyx provide individualized attention?
Yes. Small classes are intended to help teachers understand each student's academic strengths, areas for growth, learning habits and participation more closely.
Who is Catalyx Academy designed for?
Catalyx is being designed for Broward County families who want strong elementary academics in a small-school environment, and who also want their child to build practical skills in communication, leadership, problem-solving, money and responsible technology use from an early age.
