Why Catalyx exists

Why We're Building Catalyx

The world children are growing into is changing quickly. Technology, artificial intelligence, communication, financial decisions, entrepreneurship and the ability to work with others will increasingly shape their lives. But preparing children for that world should never mean sacrificing the fundamentals.

  • Strong Academics

    Give children the foundation.

  • Five Pillars

    Introduce practical skills gradually.

  • Small Classes

Allow teachers to know each child.

  • Learning by Doing

Help students use what they know.

Catalyx is not about replacing traditional education. It is about building on what works and adding what children will increasingly need.

The founder

Why John Platts is building Catalyx.

John Platts, founder of Catalyx Academy

John Platts

Founder, Catalyx Academy

John Platts is a longtime entrepreneur with nearly three decades of experience building and leading a business that serves schools across the country. He earned his degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University and went on to build a successful company working closely with educators, administrators, families and school communities. As a founder he has built an education-focused company that has worked with more than 20,000 schools over nearly three decades.

The vision for Catalyx Academy is also deeply personal. John saw firsthand how a traditional, one-size-fits-all education system could fail a child when his own son struggled to receive the tools, support and individualized approach he needed to thrive. That experience shaped a simple belief: children should not have to fit neatly into a predetermined box in order to be successful.

Catalyx Academy is being created to offer a different path — one where strong academic foundations are combined with individualized attention, confidence-building, creativity, real-world application, communication, leadership and future-ready skills. The goal is to help each child discover how they learn best, develop their strengths, and build the tools they need to succeed both in school and in life.

John's mission is to create the kind of school he wishes had existed for his own son: a place where children are understood, challenged, supported, and given the opportunity to truly thrive.

Academic leadership

Built With Experienced Elementary Educators

A forward-thinking school still depends on excellent educators. Catalyx's academic program is being developed with experienced elementary-school leadership, particularly around the critical early years when children learn to read, write, understand mathematics, communicate and develop strong learning habits.

Before Catalyx asks children to build, lead, innovate or present, we make sure they have the academic foundation to succeed.

Catalyx will introduce its academic leadership publicly before enrollment opens, so families know exactly who will be teaching their children.

What we believe

The Catalyx Belief

  1. 01

    Foundations come first

Children need strong reading, writing, mathematics, science, language and learning habits before anything else can truly flourish.

  2. 02

Children can learn more than we often ask of them

Age-appropriate exposure to communication, leadership, money, problem-solving, entrepreneurship and technology can begin in elementary school.

  3. 03

    Small classes matter

Children learn differently when teachers genuinely know them, hear from them, and understand where they need support or challenge.

  4. 04

    Knowledge should become capability

Children should increasingly learn how to use what they know — not simply remember it for a test.

These beliefs shape every part of the Catalyx model.
